Washington

Radio International's relationship with NPR allows us to carry their programming when special circumstances may make it appropriate. In the first days following the tragic events of September 11, 2001 we relied upon the exceptional broadcasting talents of the men and women of NPR who not only provided fresh information as it became available, but also helped our listeners come to grips with the event.

A few words about NPR...

Public radio's roots go deep into the beginnings of American broadcasting. Many of the first radio stations were noncommercial "educational" stations established in the 1920's at colleges and universities.

National Public Radio was founded on February 24, 1970, with 90 public, noncommercial, radio stations as charter members. Today, NPR serves a growing audience of more than 15 million listeners in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.

NPR is the regular international news provider to our sister radio station, The Rock Of The Riviera (available on 88.4 FM).

In its 30 years, NPR has won every major award in journalism for news and cultural programming in America.

Berlin

Our affiliate relationship with Germany's oldest broadcast network gives Radio International full access to their staff of journalists posted around the world. In the event of a major news story with a special relevance to Germany we turn to DW for a balanced story but with a German point of view.
